Our Year 8 pupils recently enjoyed a fascinating guided walk through Gloucester city centre to discover its important role in the English Civil War.
Led by expert guides from the Gloucester Civic Trust, the tour highlighted key sites connected to the city’s proudest moment—the Siege of Gloucester in 1643. At this critical point in history, a small Parliamentarian garrison, commanded by Colonel Massey, bravely held off King Charles I and his Royalist army.
This hands-on experience brought history to life, helping pupils link their classroom learning about the Civil War with the rich local heritage of Gloucester.
