We were honoured to welcome our local Gloucester Member of Parliament, Alex McIntyre, to Al-Ashraf Secondary School for a special visit led by our students as part of our PSHE curriculum which encompasses British values and democracy.
During the visit, pupils confidently delivered a thoughtful and inspiring presentation showcasing our school ethos and our strong commitment to Citizenship.
Students highlighted how Al-Ashraf blends academic excellence with Islamic values, nurturing confident, compassionate and socially responsible young people. They shared examples of Citizenship in action at a personal, local and global level – from leadership development and work with Gloucestershire Constabulary, to community projects with local schools, environmental initiatives, and fundraising for humanitarian and global causes.
The visit also gave students the opportunity to engage directly with democracy by questioning their MP on issues that matter to them, including global humanitarian issues, hate crimes, education costs, transport and environmental sustainability. It was a proud moment that reflected our school’s mission to develop well-rounded individuals who understand their role in modern British society and strive to make a positive contribution.
We thank Alex McIntyre MP for taking the time to visit our school and for engaging so positively with our students.
