At AASSG, our annual Citizenship Week is a much-anticipated highlight in the school calendar, taking place during the final week of Term 1. This special week is rooted in both our Islamiat and PSHE curriculum and is designed to help students explore what it means to be a responsible citizen — personally, locally, and globally, IA.
The week begins with a series of engaging charity fundraising events, where students reflect on the blessings they have and the importance of sharing with those in need. Through these activities, they develop key values such as gratitude, compassion, and generosity — all central to Islamic teachings.
“There is no creature on Earth whose food and needs are not provided by Allah.” Sūrah Hūd (11:6)
Students will take part in a wide range of initiatives throughout the week. These include:
“Whoever relieves a believer’s distress in this world, Allah will relieve one of his distresses on the Day of Judgment.” Muslim
Citizenship Week concludes with meaningful community service activities:
“Deen (religion) is wishing-well for others.” (Muslim)
Throughout the week, students are reminded that intention (niyyah) is at the heart of every action. Whether giving charity, helping the environment, or supporting others, our aim is to act with sincerity and a desire to please Allah ﷻ.
This enriching week offers students a chance to grow in character, deepen their empathy, and become active participants in positive change — all while strengthening their Islamic identity, IA
