Citizenship


Citizenship education is about helping young people understand their rights and responsibilities as members of society. It recognizes and builds on the excellent work that already goes on in many schools and makes it an entitlement for all pupils to learn.


Citizenship aims to ensure that students:


During years 10 and 11, students will be entered for the GCSE short course, which consists of 40% coursework and 60% examination. The coursework consists of pupils taking part in a Citizenship activity.


The Citizenship Studies exam is all about using the knowledge the pupils have learnt during the course. The paper covers 3 core themes; Human Rights, Power, Politics, Media & The Global Village. There are 3 sections in the exam which aim to test the knowledge and skills developed on the course as well as assessing how participated one is in the Citizenship activity.
